Mentoring...we need YOU! by Lesley Doan

Mentorship, according to Wikipedia, is “a relationship in which a more experienced or more knowledgeable person helps to guide a less experienced or less knowledgeable person.”

At Tiqvah we know that in order for our students to truly succeed they need a mentor, a person who can intentionally pour into them. We also know that one caring adult can help change a child’s future. We are in the business of building relationships to ultimately help change the future of a child’s life for the good!

The CDC did a report on Stark County and in our county alone 5% of our teens attempted suicide last school year. We have had 16 teen suicides within the past year. Our teens are hurting and God has put it on our hearts to take action! Will you join us?

Tiqvah provides a place for kids to feel safe; to receive physical, academic, emotional and spiritual support; to learn more about God and further their relationship with Him; to belong; to feel loved; to know that they are enough and God has a plan for them!

We are a small organization with a HUGE heart and our God Dream is to change our county and the lives of teens!!

In order for us to maintain and grow we need your support. Financially we need to be sustainable so that growth will come more easy. One way for us to be sustainable is through monthly supporters. As a monthly supporter the individual, church, organization or business makes a commitment to support Tiqvah. We have sponsorship options of $50 or $100 a month. You could also make a pledge for any amount and have it automatically withdrawn from your account.

Sponsorship Story

When I became the Executive Director in early 2017 I met Claudia and her husband Kelly. At the time Claudia was volunteering to help with our Evening of Hope Event and leading a few art classes at Tiqvah. In the summer of 2017 , Kelly decided to sponsor a Tiqvah student. During the 2018 school year Claudia continued to help at our fundraising events and Kelly joined her. At Tiqvah we encourage our student sponsors to volunteer so that they can spend time with their student during program and the relationship grows organically without anyone feeling awkward. I had shared this concept with Kelly and so this school year he decided to he was going to attend our volunteer training and get involved. Kelly now volunteers weekly, helping with homework and driving one of our Tiqvah vans. Since Kelly is a familiar face he has also been able to build an organic relationship with his sponsorship student. Claudia continues to join Kelly when her schedule allows and is a huge part of our fundraising committee. Just two weeks ago Kelly and Claudia attended the baptism service and watched as their sponsor student was baptized. It was an amazing experience for everyone and just one example of ways to be involved with Tiqvah. Kelly and Claudia have built an organic mentoring relationship with their sponsor child.
