My Story of Celebration by Lesley Doan

Oh how things change in a year when God is moving! Last year at this time I was invited to attend a breakfast at Glenmoor Country Club to learn more about Tiqvah-Hands of Hope. I was familiar with Tiqvah and knew they were an after school program for kids in Canton City Schools. Though my youngest was only about two weeks old when I decided to attend, I knew I needed out of the house and something in my heart was telling me to go. When I entered the Glenmoor Chapel I was wowed by its beautiful setting and atmosphere. Everyone I met from Tiqvah was so nice. We had our delicious breakfast and then the students started to share.

Now it may have been new baby hormones but I had tears in my eyes just seeing the joy they had when talking about Tiqvah. They shared about what they like most about their days at Tiqvah and about their hopes and dreams. These students, who come from various backgrounds and homes that aren’t always safe or positive, were sharing all about what they want to do as they get older and how they plan on getting there. After the students were done speaking, we were able to chat with some of them, share a cup of hot chocolate and purchase some Tiqvah made ornaments to benefit the program and all of the amazing students.

My heart was moved that day. Little did I know those very kids would become my “extended family” just three months later. I am personally inviting you to come hear from our students and staff about Tiqvah and all the things our kids are doing. Come, listen, and be moved by hope this holiday season. We are so excited to share with you and I hope to meet you and get to chat with each and every one of you!
